The family of a man who died following a collision on the A4232 on Thursday have paid tribute to a “kind and caring gentleman”.

Leighton Maurice,63, died at the scene of the two-vehicle collision, which happened between Culverhouse Cross and Leckwith at approximately 4.45pm.

Paying tribute to the 63-year-old, his family said: “We as family are shocked and saddened by what has happened.

“Leighton was a gentleman through and through; kind, caring and full of jokes.

“After his family, music was his everything. That was closely followed by his horticultural talents and next year we hoped to exhibit at Chelsea flower show, something he would have loved.

“He was proud yet humble.

“Leighton was truly passionate about football, he would still play at the age of 63 even if it now took three days to recover.  During those recovery days he would revel in the opportunity to watch his favourite sport on TV.

“Always on the go and never sat still. We are numb with grief.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who fought so valiantly at the scene to save Leighton and ask that we are now given our privacy to grieve as a family.”

South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the collision, and any witnesses who have not yet provided their details to officers are asked to contact 101, quoting occurrence 1900175776.

Any motorists with dash-cam footage are also urged to contact police.
