Neath Port Talbot Council is to recruit six additional youth workers in order to strengthen its Youth Service provision.
The roles are to be funded by Welsh Government via its Youth Support Grant, and by the West Glamorgan Regional Partnership.
Five of the new roles will focus on supporting young people who have emerging mental health, emotional or wellbeing issues, and those at risk of or have experienced homelessness. One of the roles will focus on supporting young carers. It is intended that all the roles will increase the access to young people who are experiencing these issues so that support can be provided at an earlier stage.
The mental health, wellbeing and homelessness youth workers will develop closer relationships with health, social care and voluntary sector services to better coordinate the support delivered. They will also be tasked with developing appropriate referral mechanisms, signposting, and pathways of support.
The Young Carers Youth Worker will work closely with schools to ensure young carers are aware of the additional support and information available to them. For example, accessing additional transport services and ensuring young carers have the opportunity to meet others in a similar position.
Councillor Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture, said:
“I am delighted we are able to expand the support we can offer to young people who may be experiencing some difficulty in their life.
“Our team of dedicated youth workers have a significant role in giving young people the opportunity to learn and progress outside of the classroom. This is vital to ensure all children and young people in Neath Port Talbot are given the best start in life so they can be the best they can be”.
The Council’s Youth Service works with young people aged between 11 and 25 to help develop their personal and social skills through activities such as youth clubs, Duke of Edinburgh Award, a dedicated youth council, school based youth workers and youth workers helping young people into education, employment and training. The youth service also provides provision for LGBT young people. If you would like any further information on any of these services then please contact the Youth Service on 01639 763030.
Y cyngor yn cryfhau ei Wasanaeth Ieuenctid
Mae Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot wedi cytuno i recriwtio chwe gweithiwr ieuenctid ychwanegol er mwyn cryfhau ei ddarpariaeth Gwasanaeth Ieuenctid.
Darperir cyllid grant ar gyfer y swyddi gan Lywodraeth Cymru trwy’r Grant Cefnogi Ieuenctid a chan Bartneriaeth Ranbarthol Gorllewin Morgannwg.
Rôl pump o’r gweithwyr ieuenctid fydd darparu gwasanaeth pwrpasol i bobl ifanc â phroblemau iechyd meddwl, emosiynol neu les sy’n ymddangos, a’r rhai sy’n wynebu’r perygl o fod yn ddigartref, neu sydd wedi profi digartrefedd. Bydd un o’r gweithwyr ieuenctid yn canolbwyntio ar gefnogi gofalwyr ifanc. Bwriedir i’r holl swyddi gynyddu mynediad at bobl ifanc sy’n wynebu’r problemau hyn er mwyn darparu cefnogaeth ar gam cynharach.
Bydd y gweithwyr ieuenctid iechyd meddwl, lles a digartrefedd yn datblygu perthnasoedd agosach â gwasanaethau’r sectorau iechyd, gofal cymdeithasol a gwirfoddol i gydlynu’r gefnogaeth a roddir yn well. Bydd gofyn iddynt ddatblygu mecanweithiau atgyfeirio priodol, cyfeirio a llwybrau cefnogaeth.
Bydd y Gweithiwr Ieuenctid i Ofalwyr Ifanc yn gweithio’n agos gydag ysgolion i sicrhau bod gofalwyr ifanc yn ymwybodol o’r gefnogaeth ychwanegol sydd ar gael iddynt. Enghraifft o hyn yw cael mynediad at wasanaethau cludiant ychwanegol a sicrhau bod gan ofalwyr ifanc gyfleoedd i gwrdd â phobl eraill sydd mewn sefyllfaoedd tebyg.
Meddai’r Cynghorydd Peter Rees, Aelod y Cabinet dros Addysg, Sgiliau a Diwylliant,
“Rydw i’n falch iawn ein bod yn gallu ehangu’r gefnogaeth y gallwn ei chynnig i bobl ifanc a allai fod yn profi rhai anawsterau yn eu bywydau.
“Mae gan ein tîm o weithwyr ieuenctid dynodedig rôl arwyddocaol i roi’r cyfle i bobl ifanc ddysgu a gwneud cynnydd y tu allan i’r ystafell ddosbarth. Mae hyn yn hanfodol i sicrhau bod plant a phobl ifanc yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot yn cael y dechrau gorau mewn bywyd er mwyn iddynt fod y gorau y gallant fod.”
Mae Gwasanaeth Ieuenctid y cyngor yn gweithio gyda phobl ifanc rhwng 11 a 25 oed i ddatblygu eu sgiliau personol a chymdeithasol trwy wneud gweithgareddau megis clybiau Ieuenctid, Gwobr Dug Caeredin, cyngor ieuenctid dynodedig, gweithwyr ieuenctid mewn ysgolion a gweithwyr ieuenctid sy’n helpu pobl ifanc i gael mynediad at addysg, cyflogaeth a hyfforddiant.
Hysbysebir y swyddi gwag ar wefan y cyngor yn yr wythnosau nesaf.
