Welsh Labour Assembly Member, Eluned Morgan has met with pupils from Queen Elizabeth High School ahead of the final of the Young Enterprise Company of the Year Wales National Final.

The competition taking place in Cardiff in early June will bring together student companies from across Wales who have been participating in the Young Enterprise’s Company and Team Programmes over the past year.

6 pupils working across several classes at Canolfan Elfed have been working on QE High’s entry called ‘Which Craft’ which upcycles everyday items into special occasion gifts, providing students with an opportunity to experience what it is like to set up a business, produce goods to meet demand, develop finance systems and customer service.

Queen Elizabeth High is the only school representing the Mid and West Wales region in the event which takes place at the University of South Wales Campus on Wednesday 5th June.

Eluned said: “It was a pleasure to meet the pupils who have already put so much effort into setting up and running their business and for making a profit based on their ideas.  Everyone has a role, from MD to maker, giving those taking part a taste of what it is to be in business selling their goods at school and in Carmarthen Market.  I’d like to congratulate the team for reaching the final stages of the competition, and to wish them every success in the All-Wales final next month.“

Eluned Morgan was joined by Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Marc Tierney.

Marc said: “The team has already proven that they are winners, beating the competition at a local level.  This programme is helping young people who need some additional learning support to develop enterprise and employability skills that will stand each of them in great stead for the future.  The team is a real credit to the staff at Canolfan Elfed and they are great ambassadors not only for Queen Elizabeth High School but also for the county of Carmarthenshire too.”
