Jono: We're not safe yet

midfielder reflects on Hull defeat. “I can’t say that one more win will be enough.”

Jonathan de Guzman insists Swansea City are far from safe following Saturday’s defeat against Hull.

The Swans went down to a 1-0 defeat at the KC Stadium after George Boyd’s first half header sealed all three points for the home side.

The defeat leaves Garry Monk’s men on 33 points – six clear of the relegation zone.

But after crucial wins for West Brom and Fulham last weekend, it appears there are many more twists and turns to come in the final weeks of the campaign.

Swansea now host title-chasing Chelsea at the Liberty next Sunday, and de Guzman knows there is still work to be done.

“We’re not safe. After the win against Norwich, we wanted to build on that and get a good result at Hull,” he said.

“It’s a big blow. It’s a game we have to learn from and take the positives and negatives to work on for next week. Chelsea will not easy. They are a great team. It’s going to be as difficult as possible to get a win.

“I can’t say that one more win will be enough. It’s difficult. There are a lot of the bottom teams down there taking points. It’s important not to look at the bottom teams, but to look at ourselves and getting the results we need.

“We can’t assume that 36 points will do it. We’ve got to take every game as a final and try and get as many wins as we can.”

The Swans struggled to find their usual rhythm on Humberside, with Hull making life difficult for the visitors.

Nathan Dyer had the best chance, but shot wide in the second half, while Wilfried Bony was denied any clear openings at goal by the defensive partnership of Curtis Davies and James Chester.

“Hull did well, pressurising us and not giving us space. We had no time to play our passing game,” said de Guzman.

“That’s what broke us down, while they were very dangerous from crosses, which is how they got their goal. We wanted to win all of our last six games. But Hull did very well and they got the good result.

“We were just unlucky. Hull played very well and closed down the spaces for us. They didn’t give us time to get on the ball, so it was just a very difficult game for us.”
