Glitz and Glamour Hollywood style

 

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood returned to Llwynhendy last Friday (28^th January) night as the area hosted its annual ‘Oscar’ ceremony.

 

This is the second  year of the Communities First Llwynhendy Annual Oscars and the event has become the area’s highlight of the social calendar and a way of thanking volunteers.

Lindy Butler, Communities First Co-ordinator said:

“Our volunteers work very hard in improving the lives of those that live in Llwynhendy.  They are our unsung heroes and it is only fitting that we make them feel special.”

“We’d also like to thank everyone that attended and especially those who helped organise the event.”

“It’s great to see people like Gareth Jenkins, Lou Reed and Pete Edwards from the Scarlets  here presenting awards, as well as Helen Mary Jones, who have taken time out of their busy schedule.”

Notable awards went to Duane Williams who won young volunteer of the year for his contributions to not only the Llwynhendy Youth Group, but also the community as a whole.  Duane is also a member of Only Boys Aloud and has performed with Katherine Jenkins, Lost Prophets and stood alongside Catherine Zeta Jones and many more.

Newcomer of the year was a delighted Rebecca Rosenthal, who said:

“I’m really thrilled and excited to win the award. I’m very passionate about Communities First and how it has the potential to bring the whole community together for a common aim.”

“Volunteering is becoming more important and more common in all our lives, and it’s fantastic to see a celebration of all the volunteer hours that have been ploughed into projects in the area.

“Having spent some years growing up in Llwynhendy, this area is very important to me, and the progress made by the local community since the inception of Communities First has been outstanding. I hope the community spirit lives on here for a long, long time.”
