On Saturday 18th of May, staff and workers from local charity Tir Coed completed a 21 mile litter picking challenge and walk from Lampeter to Aberaeron, raising awareness about Tir Coed’s 21 years of impact on local people and our local environment –  and raising over £450 for the charity.

The 10-strong Tir Coed team, armed withlitter pickers and litter bags, lined up at the starting mark alongside Hydro Dragon Events’ 21 mile walk/jog/run challengers at Lampeter leisure centre. Their destination – Aberaeron harbour, 21 miles later – seemed a long way away; but this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm that was clear to see and hear.

Ceredigion’s hills, forests, farms and public footpaths were a beautiful setting for the challenge.  Throughout the day, the team kept up to date with the Tir Coed Just Giving fundraising page and as the donations continued to grow so did their drive to keep going!

8 hours and 57 minutes afterleaving Lampeter, the team crossed the finish line together having picked up 12 full bags of litter and raised over £450 (and counting!). Tir Coed’s Communications Officer, Rhys Russell said “We all need to work together to limit the amount of rubbish strewn into our fields, towns, hedges and roadsides, and to pick up all that is already there, to keep our local wildlife safe, improve the local environment and  benefit the future of the whole planet…. Thank you to everyone who has donated to www.justgiving.com/campaign/tir-coed,helped us celebrate our coming of age and shared our journey!”
