Travel writers discover county’s delights

TRAVEL writers from the country’s top magazines and newspapers have been swarming about discovering Carmarthenshire.

The council’s marketing and tourism team have been busy attracting journalists to experience the delights of the country from the coast to the beckoning Beacons – and everything in between.

In this week’s edition of the 320,000-strong Woman’s Weekly, there’s a double page feature on Carmarthenshire described as “the land of romance and poets…”

County marketing and tourism manager Huw Parsons said:” You cannot put a price on getting such messages out and right to the heart of one of our key target markets.

“Writer Claire Gervat over two days in the county has painted a magical picture of the attractions of our great county that will certainly attract travellers.

“She has written about the county’s food, poetry, gardens and history covering Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park, Dylan’s Boathouse at Laugharne, Llanstephan, Trap, St Clears and Aberglasney.

“She describes Carmarthenshire as the garden of Wales, a coast with endless beaches and home to some of the oldest castles in the UK whose romantic ruins are well worth exploring.”

In the last few weeks the Discover Carmarthenshire team have also arranged for travel writers to come and stay and be busy in the country from the Bristol Evening Post , Discover Britain magazine, The Times, Coast Magazine online and the Independent.

County executive board member for leisure and regeneration Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “You have to admire the magnificent results achieved by this small team.

“We all know how great our county is. What better way is there to boast about it than to attract top unbiased travel writers to come and see for themselves and tell the world about it.

“The value of the results are inestimable for our tourism industry.”
