A new partnership was recently formed to provide non-political leadership for Llanelli Town Council.
The administration has come together and agreed to put political differences aside for the good of our Town. Working in the interests of our communities, who expect us to roll-up our sleeves and get on with the job of looking after our precious community assets and championing our Town.
At the Town Council meeting held last (Wednesday 5th June), a motion was accepted for Town Councillor attendances at Council Meetings to be recorded and published on the Town Council Website.
We proudly and proactively supported the motion as it was long overdue given nothing had changed under the previous Labour administrations which ran the Council since 1974.
This motion only passed now as a result of the support of the majority non-political administration which now runs the Council.
Councillor Shahana Najmi, Town Council Leader and County Councillor for the Lliedi Ward said:
“As a group, we have agreed on a set of priorities which we believe puts Llanelli Town Council firmly back on track by investing in our communities and local facilities, promoting transparency and openness and providing good quality services for ratepayers.”
“We are currently undertaking a review into how the Town Council works for our communities going forward. This includes developing a more flexible and work-friendly approach into how meetings are conducted, so we can reflect the new dynamics of the Council.
“Furthermore, we are exploring a range of ideas to enhance opportunities for greater participation so that the people that we represent feel a part of what we are trying to achieve for our Town and that their voices will be heard.
“The first step of this work will be an ‘Open Day’, where the Council will be opening its doors with a warm invitation for members of the Public to come and meet with the Mayor and Leader of the Council.
“We want our Town Council as a ‘People’s Council’ to be inclusive and diverse as possible so that everyone both our young people and our elderly in our communities have the strong representation that they deserve.”
