If Ford think they can throw money at this then slink away they’ve got another think coming says GMB Union
Ford must not be allowed to tiptoe away from Bridgend leaving a decimated community in its wake, says GMB Union.
A new Bridgend taskforce has been set up by the UK and Welsh Governments, GMB Union and sister union Unite.
GMB discussed options during a conference call with Business Secretary Greg Clarke, Welsh economy minster Ken Skates and the Secretary of state for Wales Alun Cairns today.
The Business Secretary will be making a statement to the House of Commons later this afternoon.
Mike Payne, GMB Senior Organiser, said:
“Ford workers are heading back the plant today for the first time since the company’s disgraceful decision to announce the closure of the factory at Bridgend.
“The company must not be allowed to tiptoe away from Bridgend leaving a decimated community in its wake.
“GMB discusses different options with the Business Secretary today.
“More than half of the workforce are desperate to stay at Bridgend. If Ford think they can slink away, they’ve got another think coming.
“Ford must fulfill their obligations to the dedicated workforce in Bridgend.”
