2019: Another busy year of development in Neath Port Talbot/2019: Blwyddyn brysur arall o ddatblygu yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot

This year will see another wave of building and development projects going from vision to reality – either being completed, started or getting under way in Neath Port Talbot.

And two new schools will be added to the £123m already invested in the Council’s Strategic School Improvement Programme.

Among the projects completed or being completed this year are the award winning Ty’rOrsaf apartments and commercial units opposite Port Talbot Parkway Station, Oriel, the Aberafan House apartments complex, the former Glanafan School development which includes new homes and commercial units, and Harbour Court the redevelopment of Port Talbot’s historic former Magistrates’ Court  into contemporary office accommodation.

Also being completed this year will be the pathfinder ‘Homes as Power Stations’ Swansea Bay City Deal project – 16 houses and flats on a town centre site in Neath which will generate, store and release energy – and therefore don’t need boilers.

Projects getting under way this year will include the development of new homes in Neath Town Centre, the creation of offices and commercial units to create jobs at the former Crown/Metal Box factory just outside Neath, more office development at Wind Street, Neath, a new community hub, gym and other facilities at the iconic former Plaza Cinema in Port Talbot plus new valleys tourism signage in Pontardawe and Glynneath.

In planning stages and getting under way next year will bethe development of a new swimming pool, leisure facilities and retail units in the centre of Neath, infrastructure works for a strategic employment site at Port Talbot’s Harbourside and the development of the Swansea Bay Technology Centre at Baglan Energy Parkwhich will offer office and laboratory space for research, development and innovation companies.

There are also plans to develop the Cefn Coed Colliery site as a ‘Valleys Regional Park Discovery Gateway’ and a centre for activity tourism.

Councillor Anthony Taylor, Deputy Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council said: “We are working hard with our regeneration and economic development partners to create an attractive, connected environment where people want to work, invest and do business.

We have a had a busy number of years building new schools, homes and spaces for offices and commercial development and 2019 is proving to be just as packed with exciting new projects.”

Eleni bydd mwy o brosiectau adeiladu a datblygu’n cael eu gwneud yn realiti a naill ai’n cael eu cwblhau, eu cychwyn neu’n mynd rhagddynt yng Nghastell-nedd Port Talbot.

A bydd dwy ysgol newydd hefyd yn cael eu hychwanegu at y £123m a fuddsoddwyd eisoes yn Rhaglen Strategol Gwella Ysgolion y cyngor.

Ymysg y prosiectau sydd wedi neu’n cael eu cwblhau eleni yw fflatiau arobryn Tŷ’r Orsaf ac unedau masnachol gyferbyn â Gorsaf Parcffordd Port Talbot, Oriel, cyfadeilad fflatiau Tŷ Aberafan, datblygiad hen adeilad Ysgol Glanafan sy’n cynnwys cartrefi newydd ac unedau masnachol, a Llys yr Harbwr, hen Lys Ynadon hanesyddol Port Talbot sy’n cael ei ailddatblygu’n swyddfeydd modern.

Bwriedir cwblhau prosiect arloesol ‘Cartrefi fel Gorsafoedd Pŵer’ Bargen Ddinesig Bae Abertawe eleni hefyd – sef 16 o dai a fflatiau ar safle canol y ddinas yng Nghastell-nedd a fydd yn cynhyrchu, yn storio ac yn rhyddhau ynni – gan olygu na fydd angen boeleri.

Bydd prosiectau sy’n mynd rhagddynt eleni’n cynnwys datblygu cartrefi newydd yng nghanol tref Castell-nedd, creu swyddfeydd ac unedau masnachol i greu swyddi yn hen ffatri Crown/Metal Box ychydig y tu allan i Gastell-nedd, mwy o swyddfeydd ar Stryd y Gwynt, Castell-nedd, canolfan gymunedol newydd, campfa a chyfleusterau eraill yn hen Sinema’r Plaza ym Mhort Talbot yn ogystal ag arwyddion i dwristiaid ym Mhontardawe a Glyn-nedd.

Mae’r prosiectau canlynol yn cael eu cynllunio ar hyn o bryd a bwriedir dechrau y waith arnynt y flwyddyn nesaf; pwll nofio newydd, cyfleusterau hamdden ac unedau manwerthu yng nghanol Castell-nedd, gwaith isadeiledd ar gyfer safle cyflogaeth strategol yn ardal Glannau’r Harbwr ym Mhort Talbot a datblygiad Canolfan Dechnoleg Bae Abertawe ym Mharc Ynni Baglan, a fydd yn cynnig swyddfeydd a labordai ar gyfer cwmnïau ymchwil, datblygu ac arloesedd.

Mae cynlluniau hefyd i ddatblygu safle Glofa Cefn Coed fel ‘Porth Darganfod Parc Rhanbarthol y Cymoedd’ a chanolfan ar gyfer gweithgareddau twristiaeth.
