A man has been sentenced to nine years imprisonment for rape.

Mohammed Noor Ali, aged 36, of no fixed abode, was charged with rape and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court today. (June 14)

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

The court heard, the offence took place in Maesteg in April, 2019.

In a victim personal statement, the woman said every aspect of her life has been affected by what’s happened.

The court heard, the woman had no memory of the assault and woke up with injuries.

When officers arrested Ali, they seized his mobile phone – on which they found 101 photos of the unconscious woman.

During sentencing, the judge also ordered Ali to sign the sex offenders’ register.
Detective Constable Gareth Holmes, officer in the case, praised the courage of the victim in coming forward.

He said: “I would like to commend her for showing immense strength and courage throughout the investigation and court process in order to ensure Ali was brought to justice. Ali’s actions have had a devastating and lasting impact on the victim, I hope this sentence provides some closure and comfort for her as she attempts to move forward with her life.

“I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to come forward to report sexual abuse but I want to reassure anyone considering doing so that there is a whole range of support out there, not only from the police but from partner agencies who can help you through the entire process.”

Sexual abuse can be reported via 101, or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
