A new Manager has joined the team running the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s flagship Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre at St Davids.
Claire Bates brings extensive experience in management of museums and heritage sites, working for both charitable organisations and local authorities.
Her most recent role was Operations Manager for the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, heading up a large team to deliver the frontline visitor experience over a wide and varied site.
Before joining the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Claire was manager of a heritage centre and museum in Nottinghamshire where she worked extensively with communities and stakeholder groups to promote the rich culture and heritage of that area.
Claire, who took up her appointment earlier this month, said: “I am delighted to join the Oriel y Parc team and to help further develop the unique opportunities it offers to interpret Pembrokeshire and its amazing history. And I look forward to settling down into life in Pembrokeshire.”
James Parkin, the Authority’s Director of Countryside, Community and Visitor Services said: “Claire’s experience of managing large-scale visitor attractions will help us to enhance the service offered at Oriel y Parc and develop the site further. I am confident Claire will be a fantastic asset to the visitor services team.”
Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre is owned and run by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and features exhibitions from Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. The latest has just been opened. Entitled ‘Stones and Bones’ it has fascinating exhibits from the Museum’s collections of archaeology, geology, natural history and art. Some artefacts are on public view for the very first time.
Oriel y Parc yn croesawu Rheolwr newydd
Mae Rheolwr newydd wedi ymuno â’r tîm sy’n rhedeg Oriel a Chanolfan Ymwelwyr Oriel y Parc yn Nhyddewi.
Mae gan Claire Bates brofiad helaeth o reoli amgueddfeydd a safleoedd treftadaeth, gan weithio i sefydliadau elusennol ac awdurdodau lleol.
Ei rôl ddiweddaraf oedd Rheolwr Gweithrediadau i Amgueddfa Genedlaethol y Llynges Frenhinol yn Portsmouth, yn arwain tîm mawr i ddarparu profiad rheng flaen i ymwelwyr ar draws safle eang ac amrywiol.
Cyn ymuno ag Amgueddfa Genedlaethol y Llynges Frenhinol, roedd Claire yn rheolwr canolfan treftadaeth ac amgueddfa yn Swydd Nottingham lle bu’n gweithio llawer gyda chymunedau a grwpiau rhanddeiliaid i hyrwyddo diwylliant a threftadaeth gyfoethog yr ardal honno.
Dywedodd Claire, a gychwynnodd yn ei swydd yn gynharach y mis hwn: “Rwyf wrth fy modd yn ymuno â thîm Oriel y Parc i helpu i ddatblygu ymhellach y cyfleoedd unigryw y mae’n eu cynnig i ddehongli Sir Benfro a’i hanes anhygoel. Ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at setlo i mewn i fywyd yn Sir Benfro.”
Dywedodd James Parkin, Cyfarwyddwr Gwasanaethau Ymwelwyr, Cymunedol a Chefn Gwlad Awdurdod y Parc Cenedlaethol: “Bydd profiad Claire o reoli atyniadau ymwelwyr ar raddfa fawr yn help inni wella’r gwasanaeth sy’n cael ei gynnig yn Oriel y Parc a datblygu’r safle ymhellach. Rwy’n hyderus y bydd Claire yn ased gwych i’r tîm gwasanaethau ymwelwyr.”
Awdurdod Parc Cenedlaethol Arfordir Penfro sy’n berchen ar Oriel a Chanolfan Ymwelwyr Oriel y Parc, ac yn eu rheoli, a dyma gartref Amgueddfa Cymru yn Sir Benfro. Mae arddangosfa ddiweddaraf yr amgueddfa genedlaethol newydd agor. O dan y teitl ‘Cerrig ac Esgyrn’, mae’n cynnwys eitemau hynod ddiddorol o gasgliadau archaeoleg, daeareg, hanes naturiol a chelf yr amgueddfa. Mae rhai arteffactau yn cael eu harddangos yn gyhoeddus am y tro cyntaf un.
