Councillors + Residents welcome £50,000 for Glanymor & Tyisha Communities

Dafydd Llywelyn, Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner has announced that he will now be investing £50,000 in the Glanymor & Tyisha Wards of the Llanelli Town area.

This follows a series of public meetings which were held within the areas about the growth of drug related activity and anti social behaviour.

Sean Rees, Llanelli Town Councillor for the Glanymor Ward said:

“I am absolutely delighted to have played a part with Amanda and Terry in helping to make this happen. We have been working with Dafydd and we would like to thank him for taking our concerns seriously, for finding the funding and for proactively working with us in the Community to try and make a difference.

“This funding will go towards community safety projects and will need to be prioritised where it is needed most. Given the challenges we continue to face, this is positive news for both the Glanymor and Tyisha communities.”

“We feel our community should now have a key role in deciding how this funding is spent. We will shortly be organising meetings within the community so residents can have their say.”

Amanda Carter, Seaside Resident said:

“Action is needed. We need solutions and whereas money isn’t everything if it is used correctly, it really can help to tackle some of the problems that we have.

“Around 100 people were in attendance at the recent Public Meetings which were held in Seaside and we completely share their concerns and frustrations. Our communities deserve better. This extra funding for our area is now definitely a step in the right direction.”

Terry Davies, Llanelli Town Councillor for the Tyisha Ward added:

“The increase in groups gathering down in the area engaging in drugs and causing anti social issues is very worrying. The growth of the County Line networks where drugs are being moved from bigger cities into our smaller communities presents just the latest challenge in a series of problems for our police over what has been many years now.

“I’m very pleased that Dafydd has identified Tyisha as an area which will benefit too from this much needed investment. We are already making a lot of progress with the Tyisha regeneration programme and this announcement will definitely strengthen that good work further.”
