Traders in Carmarthenshire have donned specially-designed Love Your Local Market t-shirts to support this year’s campaign.

The fortnight-long national campaign takes place between May 14-28.

The event provides the county with an opportunity to showcase its great local markets including Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ammanford and Llandeilo.

Secretary of Carmarthen Market Traders Association Rose Leaf said: “We would encourage all shoppers to come and see what great things are available in our local market. With so much on offer, there is something for everyone and every occasion.”

Chair of the Traders Association at Llanelli Market, Pavez Akhtar, said: “We would encourage all shoppers to come and see what great things are available in our local market. With so much on offer, there is something for everyone and every occasion.”

Love Your Local Market is a national campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) and backed by Central Government and the wider market industry.

Almost 700 markets across the UK are taking part.

The campaign aims to attract new market traders and also aims to highlight the importance that markets play in the heart of the local community, not only for retail a valuable community asset.

Carmarthenshire County Council Executive Board Member responsible for markets, Cllr Jeff Edmunds, said: “I hope shoppers will continue to show their support to our local market traders, not only during the Love Your Local Market fortnight, but also throughout the year.”

Llanelli indoor market opens six days a week from 8am-5pm, with its outdoor market every Thursday and Saturday.

Carmarthen indoor market opens six days a week from 9.30am-4.30pm, with its outdoor market every Wednesday and Saturday. Llandeilo and Ammanford outdoor markets are held every Friday.
