South Wales Police’s investigation to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to Christopher Kapessa’s tragic death is continuing.

It is a complex and sensitive investigation which has progressed and will now be investigated further by South Wales Police’s Major Crime Investigation team.

The family has been updated and is being given support from a specially trained family liaison officer.

Chief Superintendent Dorian Lloyd, said: “This has been a challenging investigation – based on an early assessment of the evidence which has been meticulously gathered, and following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, it is appropriate now for the investigation to be taken forward by the Major Crime Investigation Team.

“We are continuing to support Christopher’s family at this difficult time and are working closely with partners to ensure that support is also in place for all those young individuals who have been deeply traumatised by recent events.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the local community which has come together to show tremendous spirit in the face of this tragedy as they mourn the death of young Christopher who was very much part of their community.”

A teenage boy has voluntarily attended a police station to assist police with their enquiries.
