Owain Doull, Welsh Olympic gold medallist, and Becky James, former Olympic double-silver-medallist, today launched the spectacular £13.5 million development at Haven’s Hafan y Môr Holiday Park in Pwllheli, which marks the single largest investment in the park’s history.
The opening event saw the Welsh cycling heroes peddle their way through the brand-new Dragon Lakes Adventure Village. This multi-functional outdoor activity zone is a real hub of excitement and plays host to a huge array of activities including; 4×4 off-roaders, a climbing wall, Segway Adventures, bike and kart hire, Aerial Adventure and Mini Aerial Adventure for tots, and Boat Adventures on the adjacent lake.
Commenting on the new developments, Becky James said: “The Dragon Lakes Adventure Village is just incredible! There are so many different activities to do, giving you the chance to be as active as you like on holiday. I love the karts and bike hire too – who knows if someone on holiday gets a taste for pedal power and a future Olympic champion is born at Hafan y Môr!”
Owain Doull, the first Welsh-speaking athlete to win Olympic gold, added: “It’s fantastic to see so many children feeling encouraged to get involved in new sports and activities in such a fun and exciting way. You can tell from their reactions that the variety of activities now on offer at Hafan y Môr really enhances their holiday experiences!”
Also open for guests and holiday home owners to enjoy is the brand-new Coast House bar and grill which revolutionises the Haven dining experience. The Coast House is a table service dining concept centred around the grill and rotisserie ovens to deliver a range of food to suit all tastes, whilst the Cakery is perfect for those with a sweet tooth as it serves up cake by the giant slice – large enough to share – as well as ice creams and coffee. There is now something to satisfy everyone, from the family-friendly ‘HMS Glendower’ pub to the delicious delights cooked in a traditional wood burning oven in the Pizza Deck.
Andrew Baker, General Manager at Hafan y Môr, said: “I’m so proud that we’ve created something which is the first of its kind in Wales, catering for all ages and all tastes, and will most definitely create memories that will last a lifetime. The feedback we’ve had from our guests has been incredible as it is a real centrepiece of our park.
“Owain and Becky were the perfect pair to help launch our developments to our guests, team and owners. They have had massive sporting success in their lives and are so inspirational for those trying new sporting activities at Hafan y Môr. Who knows where their journey may take them?”
Further developments at Hafan y Môr include the fully refurbished Owners’ Club and Garden, which is exclusive to holiday home owners, as well as their own exclusive restaurant, placing brand-new food and drink options right on their doorstep.
Already the largest employer in Gwynedd, the new developments at Hafan y Môr opened up 100 more job opportunities to support with the evolved offering.
