Go Back to School In New Video
‘Love Too Much’ Out Now
New Album Cause and Effect Out September 20th
Keane have spent much of the summer wowing festival crowds around Europe, as well as at home in the UK at Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, Hyde Park and Cornbury. This week they play two intimate shows in the US, before returning for a full UK tour at the end of September. Their undeniably catchy new single, ‘Love Too Much’, arrives accompanied by a warm, funny, nostalgic video. The single is taken from their eagerly anticipated studio album ‘Cause and Effect’ out September 20th on Island Records – their first in seven years.
‘Love Too Much’ follows the hit single ‘The Way I Feel’, and was written by Keane, and produced by David Kosten and the band. The track is Keane at their best; piano-driven anthemic hooks elevated by Tom Chaplin’s unrivalled soaring vocals and a chorus that sticks in your brain like glue.
Directed by Lochlainn McKenna (A.K.A Locky) and intertwined with a hapless primary school teacher desperately trying, but ultimately failing to secure the love of a fellow teacher, the video sees the band take on the roles of teachers judging the school’s singing competition, as a group of ‘mini Keanes’ play the house band.
The band each take on a different role: Tom Chaplin as the clumsy PE Teacher, pianist Tim Rice-Oxley as the utterly disinterested and too cool for school History Teacher, drummer Richard Hughes as the confused and weary Maths Teacher who can’t keep up, and bassist Jesse Quin as the eccentric, enthusiastic Arts Teacher.
Jesse, who came up with the concept said of the video “our hope was that we’d come up with a light-hearted and fun, but emotionally compelling look at the idea of loving maybe a little too much.” He continues “though it may fall apart, we can find some solace in the memories of what was – “Nothing can take that away from me.”’
