Over the past week, Carmarthenshire roads policing unit have continued their efforts to promote road safety and reduce the number of casualties on our roads.

On Saturday 7th June  they worked in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council taxi licensing checking taxi’s and mini buses to promote safer passenger service vehicles and deal with any construction and use issues. 10 construction and use offences reported.

As part of a long running road safety education programme, roads policing officers worked with the local authority roads safety officers on Wednesday 11th of June by engaging with 16 – 18 year olds at Ysgol Bro Myrddin. Safe driving messages were delivered with the aim of educating them as new and would be drivers about the possible dangers of driving.

And as part of the summer drink driving campaign 305 breath tests were carried out, with 3 people arrested for drink driving.

In total over the week there were 60 traffic offence reports submitted (including the 10 from the taxi licensing operation) – 28 excessive speed, 10 using mobile phones whilst driving, 5 driver not in proper control, and 7 no insurance.

Chief Inspector of Roads Policing, Rose-Ann Lloyd said: “Road safety, and reducing the number of casualties on our roads is a priority. We are committed to patrolling our roads and whether it is engagement and enforcement with motorcyclists through Op Darwen, or speed, drink driving and any other traffic offences enforcement, we are diligent in these activities. It is pleasing to note that there were no serious collisions this weekend. The safety of our roads is the responsibility of all road users, and we will take action against those who commit offences on our roads.”
