Students and teachers at Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera–Bro Dur and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Sixth Form Centre in Port Talbot, the two schools in Neath Port Talbot offering post-16 education, are being congratulated for their outstanding achievements.
The percentage of A-Level examinations passed at grades A*-E is 97%, which is slightly down from last year’s outcome.
70% of these passes were at the higher A*-C grades, providing students with an extremely sound basis to pursue higher education or other learning opportunities.
The percentage of students attaining the top A and A* grades, including vocational qualifications and the Welsh Baccalaureate, remains at an excellent 27%, with 22% achieving these grades in A-Level qualifications, a slight decrease from last year.
The percentage of students succeeding in vocational courses and the Welsh Baccalaureate at all grades have increased significantly, particularly at the highest grades.
Many students achieved outstanding results, allowing them to enter top university courses with confidence.
These include Carys Baker, Jamie Campfield, Dyfan Ceredig, Luned Davies, Melissa Gnojek, Harriet Horgan, Megan Jones, Leon Lewis, Mollie-Jo Rees and Cerys Thomas from YG Ystalyfera–Bro Dur and Holly Camps, Georgia Crosby and Tia Prosser from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Sixth Form Centre who all secured outstanding top grade results.
Two students deserve particular mention for achieving results that place them amongst the best in Wales, Jasmyn Watkins from St. Joseph’s who achieved five A* grades and Adam Morris, YG Ystalyfera–Bro Dur, who secured 4A and 1 A* grades.
It is also pleasing that Neath Port Talbot students excelled in their studies at NPTC Group of Colleges where they increased their overall A*-A results to an exceptional 20 percent with students achieving a remarkable 100 per cent pass rate in 26 A Level subjects. For the students who followed the Gifted and Talented (Gate) programme it is also good news with 85% achieving A*/A grades and 100% achieved A*-B grades.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr. Rob Jones said: “This is another set of outstanding results for the county borough and I congratulate the students, staff and their parents for all their efforts. Again young people from Neath Port Talbot have achieved excellent examination outcomes that will allow them to continue their learning with confidence. We are all very pleased with their performance.”
Congratulating students and school staff, Cllr. Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture added: “The sound basis for learning set at Key Stage 4 has enabled more students to continue with their education beyond 16 with purpose, ambition and success.”
