Keith Davies has sponsored an event in the Senedd by Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Wales to showcase a ‘Celebration of Achievement’ highlighting the success of 130 young people who have undertaken impressive leadership and expedition training.
This is Youth Work Week which ran until 29th June focussed on promoting a wider understanding and support for youth work. The Deputy Minister for Skills, Ken Skates AM also attended the event to congratulate students.
In addition to participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award itself, the young leaders were also commended for volunteering hours they have spent in their local communities over the past eighteen months. Students Wales-wide have all helped to shape the direction and success of the programme.
Carmarthenshire students were amongst the 2012 pilot group of young leaders. Beth Howes and Richard Davies spoke at the event thanking the staff involved with the programme and the Welsh Government for funding courses.

“We’re here to celebrate the success of young people that have participated and excelled in the Young Leaders Programme. The Welsh Government provides funding for the award in Wales, it’s encouraging to meet young leaders of the future to hear their experiences on the ground.”
“It’s encouraging to see so many students working towards their Welsh Baccalaureate – helped by the voluntary service and self-development that is also required by the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The DofE’s Welsh Language Development grant has also enabled many young leaders to take part in specific Welsh speakers courses.”
