Llanelli businessman fined for flyposting

A LLANELLI businessman has been fined for flyposting to advertise his business.

Leighton Johnson of Trostre Park Car Sales pleaded guilty to four offences contrary to Section 224 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990.

Carmarthen Magistrates fined Johnson £400 (£100 for each offence) he was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £686.35 and a victim surcharge of £20 for displaying advertisements without consent from the local highway authority.

A warning letter was sent out requesting that all fly posters from the aforementioned business be removed within 14 days, this was not heeded.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for environmental and public protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We hope this will serve as a reminder to people that it is an offence to affix illegal advertisements to any structure on the highway, or to put up advertisements on private land without the necessary planning consent.”
