Australian Dennis Richards has painstakingly researched the history of his family in Llanelli.

He would now love to hear from any relatives he hasn’t yet made contact with.

Dennis is the grandson of Glyn and Margaret Richards, his father Desmond was their second son, born in Burry Port in 1921.

They emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1961 and Dennis has lived there ever since.

Desmond had one brother and two sisters – Brinley Gwyn, Eira Lilwen and Freda Patricia.

Their dates of birth, plus those of his many cousins, are published in an exhibition at Llanelli Library to celebrate the story of Glyn and his seven brothers who all fought in World War One – and miraculously all eight survived.

Dennis is now appealing for help tracking his relatives. He hopes the exhibition will also help attract attention, and that more of his family from Llanelli will get in touch.

His grandfather Glyn was one of 13 children born to Daniel and Elizabeth Williams, it is anticipated that Dennis has dozens of relatives still living in Llanelli.

He said: “I hope that people will be able to help with my quest for discovering my Richards roots, as I am very interested in making further contact with my extended family in Wales.”

Library executive board member Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The exhibition and the story of the eight brothers who all survived the Great War against all the odds, is really fascinating.

“We are grateful to Dennis for bringing us his story and hope that in turn people in Llanelli will be able to help him trace his relatives here.”
