A Llanelli triathlon club is a step closer to buying a life-saving defibrillator machine after bagging a hefty donation from a local housebuilder.

Tinworks Triathlon Club is the latest group to secure £1,000 funding as part of Persimmon Homes West Wales’ Community Champions programme.

Persimmon Homes is one of the UK’s leading housebuilders with developments right across the country. Each month Persimmon donates up to £2,000 to community groups in each of its 32 geographical operating areas. This means up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.

Tinworks Triathlon Club is extremely important for the local community and is seen as a hub for all sports in the Llanelli area.

Events are often carried out by the triathlon club including a challenge earlier this year to swim 100 miles as a combined effort from all the club’s swimmers.

The events the club stage bring the community together whilst making sure people in the local area remain active.

The £1,000 will be used to benefit the local community by investing in a defibrillator that will be fitted to the local restaurant in the Llanelli North Dock. The equipment will ensure that people in the area will have the required safety equipment if needed.

Simon Phillips, who applied for the funding on behalf of Tinworks Triathlon Club, said: “We are very thankful to Persimmon Homes West Wales. The news of the donation is fantastic.

“The defibrillator will make sure people in the local area have the suitable safety equipment if needed. It is a good way to make the community feel safer and make sure we are looking out for each other.”

Sharon Bouhali, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to support Tinworks Triathlon Club.

“The club are extremely important for the local area of Llanelli, so it is great to get behind them. Once they contacted us about fitting the defibrillator it was an easy decision to give them the funding required.”
