The Company plans to set up at the Bowcastle site in Bridgend next year, bringing an estimated 200 jobs to the town.
GMB, the Union for Auto-workers, has welcomed the decision of Ineos to develop the a new Grenadier 4×4 line inspired by the iconic Land Rover Defender in Bridgend. [1]
The company are expected to initially bring 200 jobs for the area and were highly encouraged by a government task force, set up after calls by GMB for the government to do more to save the plant after Ford made the decision to close the plant in the summer. [2]
GMB alongside other Unions met with the Economy Minister, Ken Skates today to discuss some of the details of the deal which could see up to 500 jobs on the site in the next few years. The Minister also revealed that Ineos has signed up to the Welsh Governments Economic Contract committing them to delivering fair work, inclusive growth and responsible business behaviours.
GMB Wales and South West Regional organiser Jeff Beck said:
“It’s extremely welcome news that Ineos has chosen Bridgend as the site for the production of its new 4X4. As a Union we’ve long argued that the government needs to intervene to protect and promote manufacturing in the UK, and the results are clear for everyone to see.
“Making car engines is in the DNA of Bridgend, and with the highly skilled workforce in Bridgend we’re certain that Ineos will be more than pleased with the quality manufacturing once they get going.
“We’re also pleased that Ineos have signed up to the Welsh Governments economic contract and are committed to delivering fair work in social partnership with the Trades Unions and the Welsh Government.”
