Asda workers are protesting after being told they face the sack if they donā€™t sign a new contract that takes away their paid breaks

Tomorrow from 11am [Tuesday 1st October]Ā Asda workers will demonstrate outside the companyā€™s Llandudno store against the draconian changes. [1]

This latest demo come as thousands of Asda workers have protested across the UK in recent weeks in anger at the new contracts.

The company has told workers they must sign the so-called ‘flexible’ Contract 6 – which will see them lose all their paid breaks and forced to work bank holidays ā€“ or be sacked on November 2.

Now Asda has told those who are yet to sign the contract they will not be paid for any sick leave until they do.

Meanwhile Asdaā€™s latest accounts show profits have rocketed more than Ā£92 million, while the directors trousered a whopping Ā£12million. [2]

The accounts also show the supermarket has slashed almost 5,000 jobs from shops and distribution centres.

Mark Jones, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

ā€œASDAā€™s customers need to know whatā€™s going on in their local store.

ā€œLong standing and loyal staff members are being forced to accept new contracts which leave them worse off. They demand more flexibility from the staff for, in many circumstances, less pay.

ā€œAt the same time the Company continues to make significant profit, does that sound fair?ā€.
