Gwdig Burry Port a site known to many residents of Pembrey and Burry Port is set to become a building site with over 100 houses planned for the site.

Emyr Evans asked residents on Facebook for their memories of Gwdig Hotel, also their thoughts on the development too, here are their opinions

Kellyann Baker – My mother remembers going there for the disco’s, wedding parties and other functions and she remembers the hotel it use be very busy back in the 70s there was a big function room at the side of the hotel.

Kay Jay Powell – Used to go most Saturdays.

Janette Gahan – I worked there as a waitress, behind the bar and as a chamber maid in the mid 70s. Great fun, but hard work!

Rebecca May – I had my bday parties there got some photos somewhere.

Andrea Lilley – My cousin Angela Fox’s 18th birthday party. Long dresses…

Eric Davies – It was THE venue to go to in the 70’s. Great for discos, fancy dress parties, we also celebrated the Queen’s silver jubilee there in 1977.    I used to work for 3M in Gorseinon and I can remember one mad evening when about 200 employees came down from the factory in buses to a presentation night, the bar was open, free drinks all night, it was crazy.

Dawn Jacob – I worked there as a waitress, it was good fun , also went to discos there , brilliant, also had my evening wedding reception there, such happy memories …….

Gail Millard – Worked behind bar for a while but my mother used to work there in the kitchen and did a lot of decorating for them plus my dad did odd jobs there.. Great place

Pauline Jones – I remember the ‘GWDIG /Goodig’ being THE place to go in the 1970s when there was a ‘Disco’ and it attracted one-hell-of-a-crowd! Not too far to walk home either IF you were a bit tipsy!🤣 Very sad loss!🙁
Gina Loader – Loved going to the Gwdig, had some great Saturday nights. Met my late husband there summer ‘75.
Susan Collins – We moved in to Tan-y-Coed in 1950 – facing that lovely, grand house. Part of a working farm then & we knew it as Ralph’s house. There were usually cows in the field opposite our house & all the children ‘helped’ with the hay making. There were two lovely cart horses pulling the hay ‘wain’. Such happy memories., but sorry no photos, as we didn’t take many in those days.

Phil Adler – Residents in the suburbs have endured 4 days of grass strimming and heavy machinery noise and it’s going to last five years plus phase 2 and 3 that has passed planning towards the roundabout but yet they’ve put the land up for auction hmmm how odd . Suburbs residents have fond memories but why hasn’t it been restored due to its age.
