A NEW craze that is sweeping the globe is coming to Pembrey Country Park.
Soccerzorb is a form of play-in-a-bubble football – a hilarious new game that puts soccer players inside bouncing, inflatable suits.
Darren Ives has been talking about getting the action packed game up and running in the park for the school summer holidays
Up to 14 players encased in a zorb-like inflatable bubbles are encouraged to bounce into each other as they fight for possession of the ball and score in typical World Cup fashion at goals either end of the play pitch.
This new brand of the beautiful game brings a whole new meaning to ball control because players compete inside giant bubbles.
Darren said: “First time players are a little apprehensive attired in transparent plastic bubble suits where you can see your legs but you have little control of what they are doing. They are lightweight plastic yet tough and resilient and if you get knocked over you just bounce straight back up.
“Some fail to get back up quickly because they are in hysterics. It is a great idea for parties because everyone has so much fun and it is suitable for all ages and even team bonding sessions.
“It definitely changes tackling in the game because you can’t make contact ith people’s feet as you get to the bubble first, so you have to bounce people off the ball instead.
“I am glad to say they cannot be any Luis Suarez incidents either.
“Soccerzorb is a whole lot of fun because soccer rules are quite relaxed”
Darren hopes that as the interest grows he is able to develop a tournament around his presence at Pembrey.
Carmarthenshire council executive board member for leisure services said: “There is so much interest in all the various activities at Pembrey Country Park it is becoming a destination to be for a whole lot of fun. In the last few weeks we have had the cocktail shaker washing machine tumbling people about and hysterics over the Zombie events that have been colourful and entertaining too.”
