ANDY Legg has praised the Scarlets for their role in bringing Manchester United to Llanelli.

The Reds will face a United  reserve side in a pre-season friendly at Parc y Scarlets on Monday August 8.

Legg hailed the region for letting his side use the venue and the part they have played in organising the match.

“The game wouldn’t be going ahead without the help of the Scarlets,” said the Reds’ boss.

They’ve been absolutely fantastic.

“They understand the magnitude of the game and, though I can’t go into details, they’ve done a fantastic thing for us.

“Our relationship with them has really grown recently — we’re getting closer and closer all the time.” Parc y Scarlets has already hosted two full football internationals when Wales met Estonia in May 2009 and Luxembourg in August 2010 as well as Under-21 European Championship qualifiers.

“We are delighted to be supporting the Reds in what will be a great occasion for everyone in Llanelli,” said Scarlets operations director Jon Daniels.

“We now look forward to welcoming one of the world’s biggest football clubs to experience the very best that West Wales has to offer.”

Ticket prices for the game will be announced shortly.

The match came about after Legg contacted Darren Ferguson, son of United boss, Sir Alex asking about the possibility of a friendly with United. Darren suggested Legg put the request in a letter, which he did.

“I don’t know what sort of side they’re going to be bringing,” said the former Wales defender.

“It’s not the kids, but I don’t know who will be playing.

“Obviously it’s fantastic and one hell of a gesture from Manchester United.”
