Thought for the week (we 17th August 2014)

Have you ever lost your TV remote?. It’s happened to me many times but it’s always turned up often next to the ‘phone or by the kettle, even in the bathroom as without a second thought I’ve carried it with me.

One night last week I’d settled down after a long day to watch some TV and dozed off as I often do. When I woke up – no remote! Had I walked off with it or had it just slipped down the side or under the chair? I turned the chair delving deeply beneath the cushions and then began to search in the usual and not so usual places. Eventually I gave up and tried to change the channels manually.

I found some obscure buttons at the back of the TV and in the process disconnected the TV box, then the plug came out of the wall socket and suddenly there was nothing! What else could go wrong? – the instructions I thought – it took what seemed like ages to find the English translation which when unfolded seemed to be on the scale of the Magna

Carta and the fine print and obscure diagrams were the last straw.

It’s now three days and I’m the source of much family amusement!, and no TV! Had someone picked it up while I snoozed? Had ‘Lola’ our lovely Cocker Spaniel buried it somewhere in the garden. I am totally frustrated because I’d really like to solve the mystery!

It’s when life gets tough and we are at a loss as to how our problems will ever work out; when we feel so frustrated because despite our best efforts we seem to be getting nowhere it’s then we must not allow our frustrations to get the better of us.

It’s most times easier said than done but entirely possible when we have the faith in knowing that the God of the universe is our father and shares with us all the pains and frustrations of our lives. The Bible says ‘Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near’ and in doing so we will find that God keeps his promises and gives us the assurance that in seeking we will surely find his peace and guidance. Take time, pray and let God!
