Knives Out is a classic Murder mystery experience that’s cleverly written as well as witty and thrilling to view with a few twists I didn’t even see coming. The film is directed by Ryan Johnson and so I hope at least some people will agree that this makes up for his involvement in The Last Jedi. It has an amazing cast of A list names such as Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Micheal Shannon and Jamie Lee Curtis.
A typical setting of the scene, a stately home, hosting a gathering of characters who are mainly family members, all there to celebrate the 80th birthday of Harlan Thrombery played by Christopher Plummer, a successful mystery novelist. The murder takes place later that evening and a Detective is called in to investigate & solve the mysterious case. The only catch in his case is, he has no clue as to who hired him.
Daniel Craig in the role of Detective Benoit Blanc is just so entertaining to watch. He’s like a Kentucky version of Hercule Poirot, which doesn’t sound like it would work but Craig just owned the role with great conviction. Chris Evans plays a spoilt rich brat on a trust fund, and the fact that he’s not playing Captain America just goes to show that he has a lot more range in his acting abilities than I first assumed which was so joyful to watch.
This film has a lot of surprising twists and turns I didn’t expect. And I certainly would go to watch it again (which I expect I will in the upcoming weeks) I would with absolute certainty recommend Knives Out to anyone who likes a classic murder mystery set in modern times which is why I give this a rating of nine out of ten.
