Firebrand union leader to speak at Llanelli anti-cuts public meeting
The Llanelli Anti-Cuts Campaign, set up by Llanelli Trades Council to defend our services has won backing from trade unionists, young people, pensioners and community campaigners fighting hard to save Caemaen and St Paul’s care homes.
Hundreds of Llanelli and Carmarthenshire people attended the mass demonstration called by the TUC last Saturday (26 March). After that campaigners will now be setting their sights on two important events to step up the anti-cuts campaign in the area against the government and county council’s austerity measures.
The first event will be an anti-cuts rally and public meeting on Wednesday, 6 April, at 7pm, with Rail Maritime and Transport Union general secretary Bob Crow in the Lliedi Suite of the Selwyn Samuel Centre.
John Willock from the Llanelli anti-cuts campaign said: “Bob Crow is a renowned and inspirational speaker who will generate confidence that the public-sector cuts can and will be beaten by a mass campaign of resistance.
“We are urging all concerned residents of Llanelli, and further afield in Carmarthenshire, who wish to discuss the government’s imposed cuts to attend. We intend to use the rally as a launch pad for a May Day demonstration in Llanelli against the cuts.”
