To anyone who’s a fan of this franchise, you all know that back in 1995, Will Smith made his debut in his first action movie, Bad Boys. This hit movie came out not so long after Fresh Prince of Belair, and if you ask me, Smith couldn’t have been more suited for the role of Detective Mike Lowrey, the rich kid who chases down bad guys. Not only that but the same thing goes for Martin Lawrence for the part of Lowrey’s cop partner, Detective Marcus Burnett, also the family man.
No two actors could make a better and more convincing buddy cop duo. Smith and Lawrence bounce off each other perfectly, both in action and comedy.
Eight years later, the year 2003 gave us Bad Boys 2. This sequel instantly became one of my favourite movies as the action and comedy were dialled up to eleven. Director Micheal Bay stepped up his game with new car chase scenes never seen before on screen, while almost giving us an insight on how far they can go with the Fast and Furious movies. Personally, I like to think that Bad Boys made the Fast and Furious franchise what it is today.
Now that Bay has directed Bad Boys for Life, we see in his third movie that things aren’t as they used to be. Both Lowrey and Burnett are now much older, and now it’s time to look at the big picture. Burnett wants to retire, and Lowrey wants nothing but to have the same adventures they’ve had for the past twenty-five years. A lot of changes are happening for the cop duo, and this is what I love about the movie. Lowrey is basically still trying to be the young bullet-proof cop he once was, while Burnett, is having a hard time trying to get his partner to slow down. Now taking into consideration that Mike Lowrey now has someone looking to get revenge on him, slowing down is not going to be that easy. And since this film seems to be the finale in the Bad Boys trilogy, Michael Bay has seriously, gun-cocked and loaded this with everything you’d expect to see. We have guns, cars, action, comedy and a surprising twist or two.
I sincerely recommend Bad Boys for Life if you’re looking for a seriously good time, so I give this a rating of 9.5/10.
Thanks for reading.
