Welsh Government Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language Eluned Morgan AM ādrops inā to the Llanelli Multicultural Drop In Centre
The Llanelli Multicultural Network were delighted to welcome the Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language Eluned Morgan AM, to their weekly Drop In Centre on Friday 31st January, on the last day of the UKās membership of the EU.
The Minister was keen to meet members of the Multicultural Network and volunteers who run the centre. She spoke at length to people who had come along for the weekly English language lessons and enjoyed a game designed to build on language skills. She made a point to reassure everybody that they are still very welcome in Wales and will be going forward.
The Llanelli Multicultural Network was formed in 2007 and since 2010 has run a centre for people from all backgrounds to come and make new friends, to learnĀ English and to meet people from a number of support organisations including the Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Fire and Rescue service who provide valuable information and help with a number of day to day issues.
Llanelli has a diverse population; the Multicultural Network has members past and present from over 60 different backgrounds.
Speaking to the Llanelli Standard, Multicultural Network Chair, Annie Evans told us, āIt was wonderful to welcome the Minister and to show her first-hand the work we do here. We are all volunteers and without the support of the St Paulās Family Centre, who kindly give us the use of the venue for free, we would really struggle. We manage with a small grant from Llanelli Town Council to run the Drop-in Centre and other funders to run events and activities throughout the yearā
Annie went on to add āa Multicultural society is not just about other cultures; Llanelli is very diverse and sharing and celebrating Welsh Culture and Heritage is also very important. We are always looking for more volunteers to help out at the Drop In Centre and for other events and activities. There is always a very welcoming atmosphere, and tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits!
