Dolittle: Review.

Dolittle is a fun, lighthearted movie that’s full of adventure. Starring Robert Downey Jr, Harry Collett, Jim Broadbent, Michael Sheen and Antonio Banderas. Cast Voices are Emma Thompson, Tom Holland, John Cena, Rami Malek and Ralph Fiennes with other extremely talented actors. To describe Dolittle, I would put it as Robert Downey Jr did on the Graham Norton Show. To quote Downey! “He is a hermit and a recluse, living on an estate, granted to him by the Queen. She’s fallen ill, he’s pretty agoraphobic, and the animals realise he’s got to get out of the house. And then it’s just all about how things converge with this young boy and a lady from Courtney and Lady Rose. And then Polly along the journey keeps riding and telling him cause he has this kind of tragic past, that and he needs to go on this journey to get well.”

I should like to inform you that Polly is a parrot voiced by Emma Thompson by the way.

The surprising thing, I was pleased to find out was that Downey, is actually playing a Welsh man. As a Welsh man myself, this was music to my ears. In my opinion, I didn’t see many flaws in his accent at all. And for Wales to be put on the cinematic map in a film like this is long overdue. On the Graham Norton Show, Downey explained how this iteration of Dolittle was inspired by a man named William Price. Downey describes him as a nutty kind of neo druidic doctor from the 19th century.

This description sounds so perfect for him, cause I imagine Downey could play this persona in his sleep.

But seriously, if you’re having trouble deciding what to watch, then Dolittle is what I would recommend. Some moments did bother me, but those moments don’t take anything away from the experience in any case.
