A clean-up operation is underway to deal with the aftermath of Storm Dennis and financial help is being made available for those affected.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s operational team has now switched its efforts from emergency response to recovery and is supporting affected communities and businesses.

The authority has today (Monday) put in place a Support Fund for residents and businesses most in need of financial support.

Council teams are now undertaking a full assessment of the damage with crews continuing to sweep and clean debris left by the receding floods, and inspections are taking place on all affected road surfaces, trees and bridges.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council said: “Now that the flood waters have subsided we have shifted our focus from response to recovery. Today we have re-opened our Support Fund which was set up following Storm Callum in 2018. This fund will help those residents and businesses most in need of financial support.

“I would like to thank all our staff who have been working hard over the weekend to respond to the difficult conditions and who are continuing to work with our partner agencies during this clean-up.

“I’d also like to acknowledge the support that our communities have shown to those who were fearful of flooding over the weekend.”
