The visitors arrived at Stebonheath with an unbeaten league record, a miserly four goals conceded to date as well as being the only side to have taken points off their opponents following a 1-1 draw at Jenner Park in August.

A couple of hours later, two of these accomplishments had been well and truly laid to rest courtesy of a scintillating display by the hosts which tore Rhoose apart, and in truth the final outcome could easily have been greater. The Reds on the day were simply too good for the visitors who were put to the sword in no uncertain manner, and to add to their woes they failed to convert a penalty and also ended the contest with nine men following two red cards. All in all, they have had better days.

It took the home side just eight minutes to establish the lead when a superb ball by Mark Napieralla into the box was collected by Bruno Forkuoh who brought it under control before sweeping his finish past goalkeeper Russell Stark. Forkuoh was then denied another potential success by a last ditch interception at the far post when Liam Samuel delivered in the cross. Reds keeper, Craig Richards, was called into action to punch clear an inswinging corner by Jacob Daly, before Samuel struck the outside of a post following a run up the right flank.

Nathan White headed wide of the home goal following a Daly free kick, before the Reds were forced into a change with Rhys Powell, who had earlier gone down injured, being replaced by Ross Jones on 25 minutes. This did little to disrupt the smooth workings of the home side who continued to take the game to Rhoose with Richard Lewis blasting his finish over the top, and when Forkuoh was found by a ball from Samuel in front of goal he just failed to get in a clean strike but instead played in Declan John, but he dragged his attempt off target. Stark was being kept fully occupied, diving low at his near post to smother a Lewis cross before sprinting off his line to head clear outside his area and deny Samuel when Napieralla set up the chance.

However, he had no chance of preventing the second Reds goal five minutes from the interval when John found Luke Jones who in turn laid the ball back into the path of Samuel, and his delightful finish curled past the helpless keeper. Comfortably ahead, and in complete control of the contest, the host were put under a little pressure early in the second period when a rare sortie by their opponents led to Drew Fahiya diverting a ball by White narrowly wide, before Rhoose found themselves in even deeper trouble just two minutes after the restart when Forkuoh had his legs whipped from under him by Gianluka Palladino, leading to the award of a penalty which was duly smashed into the roof of the net by John. A Lewis free kick driven low across the face of goal failed to pick out a home player, but it was the visitors who were thrown a lifleline on 55 minutes following the award of a penalty when Richards was adjudged to have made unfair contact with Martyn Giles in the box.

Fahiya stepped up to take it, but his kick lacked both power and direction allowing Richards to get down and make a comfortable save with a minimum of fuss. If this had been successful the game could well have become more competitive, but the failure only had the effect of spurring on the Reds with Luke Jones seeing his goal bound attempt being turned over by Stark, before the lead was extended further on the hour mark. A corner by John was met by Lee Bevan at the far post who directed his header goalwards where it was hacked away, but referee Ian Williams was perfectly placed to signal the ball had in fact crossed the line and awarded the goal.

Another potential home success was avoided when another corner by John evaded Stark but was headed clear by Jonathan Carpentier, and when Luke Jones won a race for the ball with the Rhoose keeper, his finish was just the wrong side of the upright. An afternoon of hard graft finally paid off for the Reds` striker when he got his reward in the 73rd minute after being found in the area, and he displayed some great skill by diverting the ball over his marker before firing past Stark.

The shell-shocked visitors were in for further heartache when they were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of James Easter for a second yellow card on 75 minutes, while they almost conceded again with Matthew Phillips clearing out of the goalmouth from yet another Luke Jones effort. Four minutes from time, a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Rhoose was compounded by yet another red card when White was sent off for dissent, and by then they were a well beaten and demoralised outfit.

If the Reds can continue in this vein their ultimate aim of promotion to a higher standard is eminently achievable, and they continue this quest with a visit to Tredegar Town on Saturday, kick off 2 p.m.
