The chair of Swansea’s Never Mind the Business committee, Paul Thorburn has been highly commended in Action for Children’s UK Stephenson Awards 2020.
The Douglas Jones Mercer representative and former Welsh rugby international was recognised at a ceremony at Glaziers Hall in London for his work in establishing Never Mind the Business Swansea on the city’s social calendar and raising over £116,000 for the charity since the events started in 2017.
The strictly t-shirts and jeans event sponsored by Douglas Jones Mercer and Towergate Insurance Brokers gives businesses across Swansea and South Wales the chance to put their pop music knowledge to the test and enjoy live music sets while raising money for disadvantaged children and young people supported by Action for Children.
Paul Thorburn said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted I have been commended by Action for Children for our work on Never Mind the Business Swansea. It’s a brilliant event and it’s been a pleasure to work with the committee and charity to make sure it has made a splash in the city. The Swansea public has responded with typical generosity in raising a brilliant £116,000 so far for the children and families who need it most in our community.
Nina Rice, fundraiser for Action for Children in Wales, added: ‘We are so grateful to Paul and the Never Mind the Business Swansea committee for making the event such a success. This commendation is richly deserved and underlines the tremendous work they have all put in to make a genuine difference to the lives of children, young people and their families in the Swansea and across the UK.’
