New Graffiti has appeared in Llanelli down Mincing Lane which is a tribute to TV star Caroline Flack who sadly took her life in February aged 40 due to stress from the press and social media, which is mostly down to bullying and hate names being said about her, the graffiti is done by anonymous street artist Mons_artist, it’s a picture of the sun, with a girl stood in front of it and a butterfly, with 2 words saying Be Kind. Mental health affects everyone in different ways, suffering from illness, losing a loved one, being in a war zone, homelessness, amongst others. With many support groups within Carmarthenshire to help people there’s always someone there to talk to, always confidentially, Llanelli Mind, Branching Out and Don’t Panic Support Group just a to name.
Emyr Evans spoke to the Anonymous street artist mons_artist, this is what he said about it. “It’s a nice subtle piece which can be fitted to many situations really but to me it’s about mental health. Letting go of all your anxieties and inner pains whilst showing support and being kind to others. Wether that being online bullying, abuse or anything else. I struggle with my anxiety and also have a personality disorder so its something which is only too real for me.”
“If I can make someone smile or change their thought process from putting up a piece of art then i have done what I wanted to achieve.”
Comment from Elli Jones who is a member of Branching Out a support group in Carmarthen. In terms of the recent suicide of Caroline flack.. Firstly I’d like to state that it doesn’t shock me at all, when being part of social media and being part of a society that has the ability to hurt and upset people from a space they feel comfortable In themselves without feeling a person’s emotions on a personal level because they are easy to use a foundation that carries none of the emotions, they write freely hate that gets sent without second thought where its put into a world full of different opinions way of lives and judgments… Where things snowball, where lies are easy to come across and people forget about human feeling. Unfortunately we seem to think we are moving towards bettering the mental health but there is still not enough being done, we need to look closer to communities and the help offered to people in thier local towns, given how hard it is for people to get help in the first place is then easily brushed aside and you get left to feel even worse off than you first thought. Because the second we seek help and then no further actions are put into place to help people they are then left to feel completely alone and this is when the true reality sinks in for many… It then becomes to late and then you get cases like this, my biggest opinions on this is a recent debate I actually encountered with a fellow gentleman on Facebook regarding bullying and how we prosecute it.. More needs to be done in order to stop hate, to stop people being allowed be so hurtful and free with their words when it is unnecessarily to do so, we need to start doing alot more to make people feel secure in their feelings and how they express when they feel some kind of ways, this needs trust to know that in order of opening up they will then have guidance and the help they are desperately needing… In a world already so super hard at times given the pressures to succeed the status we carry and the lifestyle we lead the least we can do is be kind to one and another, to be open to discussions on mental health and to listen to Just listen #listenandbelistenedto
Comment from Denise Kingsley-Jones. Hi here is my comment. ‘In current time’s of social media, internet, online gaming, apps and online communities, it makes many of us feel more isolated than ever. This, and the media having the power to make or break someone, makes it more important than ever to look after mental health, in ourselves and others. Someone close or online could be struggling to survive, to get up, to interact. Many could be close to the edge – most can seem fine on the outside. It is more important now, than ever before to be kind, to check up on someone you know who might be struggling. To me mindful of how we treat others. # Be kind always. Have a social conscience.
