A WOMAN has been fined £75 for failing to clean up after her dog – thanks to information received from members of the public.

Several people witnessed a dog fouling on the pavement outside the Post Office in Sycamore Street, Newcastle Emlyn.

The owner walked away, leaving the faeces on the pavement. A passer-by then cleaned up the mess to stop people from stepping in it.

Following an investigation by Carmarthenshire County Council the owner of the dog, a lady living in Drefach-Felindre, was tracked down and issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for Environmental and Public Protection, Cllr Jim Jones said: “Dog faeces left anywhere can be a serious health risk.

“We are determined to stop the problem of dog fouling in Carmarthenshire and improve the environment for residents and visitors.

“However, if we are to stop this type of anti-social behaviour, we need the help of the public, as in this case, to identify those responsible.”
