Exciting new Heritage projects

RDP Sir Gâr’s Landscape and Heritage Grant continues to develop exciting new heritage projects in the county.

Recent community organisations to benefit from a grant include the Tin Shed in Laugharne, Dyfed Archaeological Trust, Brechfa Tourism Cluster and Gwili Railway Preservation Society.

The Landscape and Heritage grant, delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Tywi Centre, aims tosupport projects that promote the area’s cultural distinctiveness. It is funded by the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 -2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and also Natural Resources Wales, National Trust and Carmarthenshire County Council.

Project Officer, Emyr Price, gave examples of the latest projects coming through:

“The Tin Shed bought 8 more mannequins for displaying their WW1 and 2 uniforms, have set up a recording studio for war stories and memories using a period phone box and bought equipment to store, copy and archive their historic data.

Dyfed Archaeological Trust has commissioned new aerial photo panels and heritage equipment at its HQ in Llandeilo that can be used by the public to access local historical details.

Historical booklets on the Brechfa and Llanllwni Mountain area have been produced by Brechfa Tourism Cluster. The booklets have been put on their website for downloading and their website and map have been developed to incorporate more local historical detail.

A ‘Trip Along the Line’ leaflet, a heritage area and interpretation panels at the Gwili station and we have provided a new Abergwili Junction sign for Gwili Railway Preservation Society.

The variety of projects coming through has been superb and we are looking forward to launching a new website in December showcasing those that we have funded.”
