Based on Valiant Comics, Bloodshot aka Ray Garrison, played by Vin Diesel, is an elite soldier who was killed in action and brought back to life by the use of highly advanced nanotechnology giving him superhuman abilities. Which include enhanced strength, speed and total regeneration (making him completely invulnerable against any deadly attack). After Garrison wakes up in the facility that brought him back to life, it is explained to him by Dr Emil Harting, played by Guy Pearce what has happened to him. And although this procedure was successful, he has no memory of the murder of his wife, or himself. And as he seeks out his revenge, he starts to find out that things aren’t exactly as they seem.

When it comes to Vin Diesel, I’ve never been that much of a fan. Don’t get me wrong, I love him as Groot, but when it comes down to it, he basically hasn’t done anything different characterwise in I don’t know how long. I mean the tough exterior, the tight tank tops and the cheesy one-liners. He’s just classic Vin Deisel all the time. Now I’m not saying I didn’t like Bloodshot, even though It’s not far from a copy of Universal Soldier, but the CGI I feel isn’t much to complain about, and the action scenes were great, but the storyline just felt too familiar. Kudos to Sam Heughan who plays the character Jimmy Dalton, who does quite a convincing angry bad guy. Eiza Gonzalez who plays the beautiful and deadly Katie aka KT, I feel wasn’t used as well as she could’ve been. We could’ve seen more of her back storey, and they could’ve done more than portray her as someone who just looks great in tight leather.

All in all, this film had the potential to be a lot more than what was given to us. I would go see it again but unfortunately, not with as much enthusiasm as before. So to sum up, Bloodshot is good but not great. On the plus side, the cast seemed to blend well with each other, as they looked to have good chemistry. But overall, I’m afraid I have to give this a rating of 6/10.
