Experienced utility back Hadleigh Parkes arrived in Wales yesterday, Tuesday, and will join the squad in their training session tomorrow.

The 27 year old arrived at Parc y Scarlets from ITM Cup side Auckland Rugby and is looking forward to getting into Scarlets training tomorrow, Thursday.

Speaking just hours after arriving in Wales Parkes said: “I’m really excited to be here. It’s great to see the sun shining and it looks like an awesome facility here.

“It’s been quite a long season but the ITM season finished four or five weeks ago so I’ve had a good few weeks off. I’m really keen to get stuck in.

“Wales is very similar to New Zealand in terms of the people being so passionate about rugby. You just have to look at the games on the TV with the singing. The support they get seems to be quite phenomenal.”

Parkes has Super Rugby experience and has joined from Auckland Rugby, a side he has previously captained. He went on to say: “I know Scarlets have had a lot of great players and have a proud history and I’m really looking forward to getting involved.”

Scarlets head back into European competition this weekend with a huge clash against Ulster Rugby who are currently fourth in pool 3. The European Cup is a competition known world over and Parkes is looking forward to his first experience. He said: “It’s an awesome competition and has awesome crowds.

“Everyone talks about the Welsh crowds – it’s something that people from the Southern Hemisphere don’t get to experience and I’m very excited to be a part of it. “

Scarlets welcome Ulster to Parc y Scarlets on Sunday 14th December, kick-off 5.15pm and tickets are on sale now.
