Captain Scott Williams has said that the Scarlets are still in the hunt for a top four spot in the Guinness PRO12 as they head to Glasgow this weekend.

One of the region’ goals at the start of the 2014-15 season was to reach the top four in the Guinness PRO12 and skillful centre Williams says ‘it’s definitely possible’.

The Scarlets will head to the Scotstoun on Friday evening to take on Glasgow who are currently in second position, just one point behind league leaders Ospreys. Scarlets are in seventh position with 28 points, 11 points behind the Scottish outfit.

Williams made a return to action against Ospreys at the Parc on Saturday after a shoulder strain and led by example throughout showing touches of class. Speaking after the game he said: “One of our goals at the start of the season was to reach top four – it’s definitely possible. We have a massive week this week and then into European Cup. It’s a good chance for us to finish this block with some points.”

As well as wanting secure top four Scarlets will need to finish within the top six in the Guinness PRO12 to secure European qualification for next season, Williams went on to say: “You want to play against the best teams so we’ll be doing everything we can to secure that.”

Glasgow will be hurting from a defeat to Edinburgh at Murrayfield on the weekend and will be a strong opposition at their Scotstoun home.

Williams added that the region must start winning games on the road to keep their qualification hopes alive; “Hopefully now it will kick-start a bit – our performances away from home haven’t been great. We need to put the performances we put in here away on the road, at the end of the day you can’t just win your home games.

“If we play like we did tonight against Glasgow we can win. We need that same mentality and edge – it carries its momentum. They’re a good team.

“It’s a massive week for us now with a game against Glasgow and a chance for us to get closer to the top four. We’ve got a bit of work to do to get up there, the top teams have lost this weekend so it’s opened it up a bit.”

Make sure you’re in the pack at the Parc on Saturday 24th January as we welcome Toulon to West Wales.
