Cllr Martyn Peters of Neath Port Talbot Council has joined the Welsh National Party stating that Wales needed “fresh new thinking to take it forward”.

Cllr Peters represents Dyffryn ward on NPT Council and is also a member of the Dyffryn Clydach Community Council.

The arrival of Cllr Peters to the WNP means the new party now already has representation on two local authorities, with a WNP Assembly Member also representing the South Wales Central region.

Cllr Peter’s said,

“This nation needs fresh new thinking to take it forward. That is why I am excited to be joining the Welsh National Party, who are committed to doing what’s right for Wales.

“I believe in individual sovereignty, enabling people to be independent and have power over their own lives. I believe in community sovereignty. Too many things are imposed on our communities. Nationally, I passionately want Wales to stand on its own two feet.

“I come from a really strong community with a proud history. People know each other, we look out for each other. And that community spirit is really being demonstrated now as we face the Coronavirus pandemic. I know we’ll get through this crisis together, and when we do, the WNP will be pushing for a better, united Wales.

Leader of the WNP, Neil McEvoy AM, said:

“As soon as I met Martyn we were on the same page. His local record is fantastic. Martyn is a community champion, with an electoral record which is second to none. How many councillors in Wales win 73% of the vote? We are all delighted to have attracted a local politician of such high calibre to the WNP.”

Cynghorydd o Gastell-nedd Port Talbot yn ymuno â Phlaid Genedlaethol Cymru

Mae’r Cynghorydd Martyn Peters o Gyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot wedi ymuno â Phlaid Genedlaethol Cymru (PGC) gan nodi bod angen “meddwl o’r newydd ar Gymru i’w symud ymlaen”.

Mae’r Cynghorydd Peters yn cynrychioli ward Dyffryn ar Gyngor CNPT ac mae hefyd yn aelod o Gyngor Cymuned Dyffryn Clydach.

Mae dyfodiad y Cynghorydd Peters yn golygu bod gan y blaid newydd gynrychiolaeth ar ddau awdurdod lleol, gydag Aelod Cynulliad PGC hefyd yn cynrychioli rhanbarth Canol De Cymru.

Meddai’r Cynghorydd Peters,

“Mae angen meddwl o’r newydd ar y genedl hon er mwyn ei symud ymlaen. Dyna pam rwy’n gyffrous fy mod yn ymuno â Phlaid Genedlaethol Cymru, sydd wedi ymrwymo i wneud yr hyn sy’n iawn i Gymru.

“Rwy’n credu mewn sofraniaeth unigol, gan alluogi pobl i fod yn annibynnol a chael rheolaeth dros eu bywydau eu hunain. Rwy’n credu mewn sofraniaeth gymunedol. Mae gormod o bethau’n cael eu gorfodi ar ein cymunedau. Yn genedlaethol, rwy’n credu’n angerddol y dylai Cymru sefyll ar ei thraed ei hun.

“Rwy’n hannu o gymuned gref iawn gyda hanes balch. Mae pobl yn adnabod eu gilydd, ac yn gofalu am eu gilydd. Ac mae’r ysbryd cymunedol hwnnw’n amlwg nawr wrth i ni wynebu pandemig Coronafirws. Rwy’n gwybod y byddwn ni’n goroesi’r argyfwng hwn gyda’n gilydd, a phan wnawn ni, bydd PGC yn pwyso am Gymru well, unedig.

Dywedodd Arweinydd PGC, Neil McEvoy AC:

“Cyn gynted ag y cyfarfûm â Martyn, roeddem yn gwbl gytun. Mae ei record leol yn wych. Mae Martyn yn hyrwyddwr cymunedol, gyda record etholiadol heb ei ail. Faint o gynghorwyr yng Nghymru sy’n ennill 73% o’r bleidlais? Rydyn ni i gyd yn falch iawn ein bod wedi denu gwleidydd lleol o safon mor uchel i Blaid Genedlaethol Cymru.”
