Ras123 campaign calls on the public to run one mile (or more) to raise money for Wales’ health sector charities in May.

Ras123 is organised by Ras yr Iaith, a national event happening every two years that raises money for community projects promoting the use of the Welsh language. Ras yr Iaith 2020, meant to be held this July, has been postponed until 2021 following the social distancing rules issued by the Welsh Government.

However, Ras yr Iaith, along with the Mentrau Iaith language initiatives are asking the people of Wales to take part in a virtual race to raise money during this difficult time. The aim of Ras123 is to run around Wales (the length of the Wales Coast Path and Offa’s Dyke Path combined) as many times as possible during May in 3 steps. Step 1 – run 1 mile or more. Step 2 – participants are encouraged to nominate 2 others to take part and step 3 – to contribute £5 or more to the Ras yr Iaith Go Fund Me Page.

The money raised for Ras123 will be split equally between the charities of the 7 health boards in Wales to go toward community health needs in their areas, which are under strain dealing with the developing coronavirus.

Lowri Jones, chair of Mentrau Iaith Cymru, the campaign organisers, says;

“Ras yr Iaith usually raises money every two years towards increasing the use of the Welsh language around Wales. However, the situation is very different this year and although it’s disappointing to postpone the event, we felt the importance to raise money towards supporting the effort against Coronavirus.

We decided to organise this virtual race to encourage people of all ages to take part by running, jogging or walking one mile, inside or out – complying with the social distancing rules of course – before nominating two others and giving £5.

We are determined that the money raised has an effect throughout Wales.

Therefore, all the money given to Ras123 will be split between the 7 charities linked to the 7 health boards in Wales to ensure every community with benefit from the campaign.”

RAS RHITHIOL O GWMPAS CYMRU I GODI ARIAN I IECHYD CYMUNEDOL

Mae ymgyrch Ras123 yn galw ar y cyhoedd i redeg un milltir (neu fwy) er mwyn codi arian i elusennau iechyd yng Nghymru yn ystod mis Mai.

Mae’r ymgyrch Ras123 yn cael ei threfnu gan Ras yr Iaith, digwyddiad cenedlaethol sy’n digwydd bob dwy flynedd i godi arian at brosiectau cymunedol a chynyddu’r defnydd o’r Gymraeg. Roedd Ras yr Iaith 2020 i fod i gael ei chynnal ym mis Gorffennaf eleni, ond mae wedi ei gohirio tan 2021 yn dilyn rheolau ymbellhau cymdeithasol Llywodraeth Cymru.

Er hyn, mae Ras yr Iaith ar y cyd â’r Mentrau Iaith dros Gymru yn annog y cyhoedd i gymryd rhan mewn ras rhithiol er mwyn codi arian tuag at achos da yn ystod y cyfnod anodd hwn. Bydd ymgyrch Ras123 yn annog y cyhoedd i ddilyn 3 cam. Cam 1 – rhedeg neu gerdded 1 milltir neu fwy fel bod y ras yn mynd o gwmpas Cymru (pellter Llwybr Arfordir Cymru a llwybr Clawdd Offa) cynifer o weithiau ag y gall yn ystod mis Mai. Cam 2 – bydd gofyn i’r unigolion/ teuluoedd sy’n cymryd rhan enwebu 2 berson arall i gymryd rhan a cham 3 – rhoi £5 neu fwy drwy’r dudalen Go Fund Me Ras yr Iaith.

Bydd yr arian fydd yn cael ei godi i ymgyrch Ras123 yn cael ei rannu’n deg rhwng elusennau’r 7 bwrdd iechyd yng Nghymru i fynd tuag at anghenion iechyd cymunedol yn eu hardaloedd, sydd dan straen difrifol wrth ymateb i ddatblygiad y Coronafeirws.

Dywed Lowri Jones, Cadeirydd Mentrau Iaith Cymru, sydd yn trefnu’r ymgyrch ar ran Ras yr Iaith;

“Mae Ras yr Iaith, fel arfer, yn codi arian bob dwy flynedd tuag at gynyddu’r defnydd o’r Gymraeg ar draws Cymru. Ond mae’r sefyllfa yn dra gwahanol eleni ac er y siom o orfod gohirio Ras yr Iaith ar ei ffurf arferol, roeddem yn teimlo ei bod yn angenrheidiol i ni godi arian rywsut i gefnogi’r ymdrech yn erbyn Coronafeirws.

Penderfynom drefnu ras rithiol, a rydym yn annog pawb o bob oed i gymryd rhan drwy redeg, loncian neu gerdded un milltir, tu fewn neu tu allan – wrth gyd-fynd gyda rheolau ymbellhau cymdeithasol wrth gwrs– yna enwebu dau berson i gymryd rhan a rhoi pump punt i’r achos.

Rydym yn benderfynol bod yr arian a gesglir yn cael effaith ledled Cymru, felly bydd yr holl arian a gesglir yn cael ei rannu rhwng 7 elusen y 7 bwrdd iechyd yng Nghymru fydd yn sicrhau fod pob cymuned yn elwa o’r ymgyrch”
