A Scarlets side, blighted by injuries, put up a strong effort against English giants Leicester Tigers in the fifth round of the European Rugby Champions Cup on Friday evening.

Despite Tigers getting the victory and try bonus point Scarlets scored three tries of their own, two for winger Harry Robinson and one for loosehead prop Rob Evans, and continued to fight until the bitter end.

Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac spoke after the game about his team’s efforts over the eighty minute performance and was proud of their continued determination.

Pivac said: “The boys wanted to move the ball around. I thought the first half in particular, when we had possession, we made good in-roads. We got a good try and it was game on at half time.

“It was pleasing to see the guys keep working away, scoring another good try towards the end and nearly a fourth one.”

Pivac went on to say: “In terms of the 80 minute performance we’re obviously disappointed with their tries form set piece but I thought the boys played well.

“The sorts of players that are missing do make a difference, you’re talking about a lot of international players in certain positions.

“The team we had out there was what we had to work with and over the 80 minutes, generally speaking, they put up a pretty brave effort.”

Scarlets will have plenty of positives to work on when they return to training on Monday ahead of the last pool game on Saturday when Toulon visit West Wales.
