A new wrestling club has been set up thanks to a cash boost.

Some £1,500 was awarded from Community Chest funding in April 2014 to Llanelli Olympic Wrestling club.

The money was spent on start up costs including venue hire, equipment and workforce development.

As a result it now offers four training sessions a week with approximately 20 members, from beginners to elite level.

Club coach, Matthew Eynon said: “I believed there was a gap in the Llanelli area for this kind of sport and the funding has helped set up the new club.”

Community Chest is funded by Sport Wales and distributed via the council’s sport and leisure section.

Sport and leisure officer, Hilary Jones said: “The grant is ideal for anyone wanting to set up a new club or provide new activities as it will cover the initial start up costs such as venue hire, equipment and putting people through coaching and necessary course.”

Youth clubs/groups, sports clubs/organisations and non-sporting organisations with an interest to provide physical activity (eg community hall associations, community councils) can apply for up to £1,500.

Applications are encouraged from clubs who want to develop opportunities for women and girls, the disabled and from clubs within areas of social deprivation.
