BUSINESSES are being reminded that skips need to have permits if they are being placed on the highway.
The message comes following a recent court case where a builders skip was placed on the highway in High Street, Abergwili.
Enquiries by Carmarthenshire County Council’s environmental enforcement officers revealed that there was no permit in place authorising the skip which was hired by Burton Skip & Recycling Services Ltd.
Burton Skip & Recycling Services from Swansea pleaded guilty to the offence contrary to Section 139 of the Highways Act 1980 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court. The company was fined £100 plus ordered to pay £172.95 in costs and £20 victim surcharge.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for Environmental and Public Protection, Cllr Jim Jones, said: “Carmarthenshire County Council is determined to tackle the problem of unlicensed skips.
“This is important both to ensure safety on the highway and to reduce the risk that waste from those skips will be illegally dumped.”
