Sometime between 1am and 7.10am on Monday, February 2, persons unknown have forced entry to Ysgol Dewi Sant, Bryndulais Avenue, Llanelli.

A number of high value electrical items, including seven laptops, have been stolen from classrooms.

Llanelli PC Ffion Ebenezer, of Dyfed Powys Police, said: “This is a distressing incident for the school staff, pupils and parents of Ysgol Dewi Sant and police officers are conducting a thorough investigation in an effort to find the person or people responsible for this crime.

“As well as investigating the burglary, police officers have been offering reassurance and security advice to school staff and teachers. While we do not want to alarm other schools, as thankfully this kind of incident is uncommon in Llanelli, we would ask all teachers and staff to be extra vigilant and security conscious at this time.

“I also urge anyone who is offered a laptop or other electrical device to buy and they suspect it could be stolen to please call police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. This could help us return the stolen property to Ysgol Dewi Sant.”

Police are carrying out a number of enquiries as part of the investigation and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the incident to call police in Llanelli on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Protecting Your Property Advice:

  • Ensure all valuable items are locked away safely and securely, or alternatively not stored on school premises overnight.
  • Ensure property is marked with a UV pen or substance such as Smartwater, which provides a unique DNA-type liquid for each household or business, to protect their property and make it easier for property to be returned to their rightful owners if stolen.
  • Register property on www.immobilise.com – a national database used to help keep property safe and allow return of stolen goods to the owner
  • Ensure all windows and doors are locked when leaving the property unoccupied
  • Install and use an alarm system
  • Report any suspicious behaviour around the property to police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
