Being a comic devotee can can get expensive and it sometimes means having to leave your house! Thankfully the gods saw fit to give us web comics that are not only free but I don’t have to put trousers on to enjoy. So in celebration here are my top five web comics:
Least I Could Do by Ryan Sohmer and Lar deSouza.
The story revolves around the elaborate antics of Rayne Summers, an ego driven womanizer with a fluctuating attention span. Who, despite these apparent flaws has a fierce loyalty to his friends and strong morals (although these sometime seem to be more informed by his ego than principle). The more surreal adventures are balanced with more serious subjects or current events and find a point of view that is both funny and thought provoking.

Hijinks Ensue By Joel Watson.
Hijinks Ensue is a semi-autobiographical comic about a lifelong geek and aspiring artist who turns his back on an unfulfilling, but financially stable career in order to pursue art full time and set a better example for his daughter. Watson is brilliant at finding the comedic absurdity of life, with the father- daughter strips being some of the funniest and sweetest stories.

XKCD By Randall Munroe
This is a web comic about romance, sarcasm, math and language. Don’t be fooled by the stickman drawings, XKCD is one of the smartest comics you’re going to read. It has a slew of recurring characters and gags, as well as jokes about physics and computer coding that surprisingly anyone will find funny which I think is the comic’s greatest strength.

Girls With Slingshots By Danielle Corsetto
The comic follows best friends Hazel and Jamie as they navigate love, life, unemployment and cat ownership. One of the comic’s strengths is that it has such a diverse range of characters that are really well juggled between, all with solid story arcs. There are also a great series with more surreal elements ranging from ghost cats to talking cactus.

Breaking Cat News By Georgia Dunn
The comic follows cats Elvis, Puck, and Lupin as they report the news from around their house. Each feline reporter has a unique personality brilliantly bought to life by Dunn, based on her real cats. Dunn has taken the world as experienced by cats as well those elements of cat ownership that have made the internet such a success and made a hilarious and touching series.
